This is a recipe for a machine that does 1.5 to 2 pound loaves. For this recipe you will need:
- 1 cup of lukewarm water (230 grams)
- 1/3 cup of lukewarm milk (75 grams)
- 3 tablespoons of sugar (35 grams)
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of salt (10 grams)
- 3 tablespoons of butter (40 grams)
- 3 and 3/4 cups of flour (450 grams)
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of dry active or instant yeast (10 grams)
The order of these ingredients is intentional, as you will want to put them in the machine with the water and milk first, then the sugar and salt and butter, and finally the flour with the last ingredient being the yeast. The yeast, being last, should not come into contact with the liquids until the machine has started its cycle.
I find it helpful to measure or weigh the flour first. Once you have placed all of the ingredients into the machine, you can start the bread machine on its basic white bread setting. When the machine has completed its process, remove the bread pan from the machine and let it cool for 5 minutes.
